ADULT MINISTRY

BIBLE STUDIES

Women’s Circle Bible Studies

These groups meet on the 3rd Thursday of each month. Martha Circle meets at 9:30 am at the church and Hannah Circle meets at 2:00 pm at the church. The circles use the Bible studies from Gather, the magazine of the Women of the ELCA. Members take turns leading the Bible study and hosting the gatherings. Pastor Siri provides a leader’s Bible study so that those who volunteer to lead are equipped to do so. Click HERE for the Women of Grace (WOG) Directory and service group information.

Faith and Friends Bible study

This is the adult Sunday school class. It meets each Sunday during the school year in the Gathering Place across from the nursery downstairs. Treats and coffee are provided. Pastor Woody Clauson leads this study.

Other Bible studies are offered occasionally through the year and are publicized through the bulletin or monthly newsletter.

ADULT FELLOWSHIP GROUPS

Aging Gracefully

This a group for retired adults that meets the 1st Thursday of each month at 9:30 am. The group hears speakers on a variety of topics, sometimes goes to visit and learn about various ministries and services in Sioux Falls, and occasionally does a Bible study.

Let's Bake!

This group meets on the third Saturday of the month to bake treats for our fellowship hour on the following Sunday. This is for all ages and they meet at 9:00am in the Grace Lutheran Kitchen.

ADULT MUSIC OPPORTUNITIES

Celebrant Choir

This Group welcomes singers of all abilities and backgrounds from high school age on up. The group rehearses on Wednesday evenings during the school year and sings for four worship services each month and for special services.

Grace Alive

This is a more contemporary worship team that leads the services every six weeks or so. It is made up of singers and instrumentalists. If you are interested in being a part of this group please talk to Pastor Siri.

Hand Chimes

This is a group of players high school age through adult. The group rehearses Wednesday evenings and plays monthly.

Singing Men/Singing Women

These are smaller choir groups that sing occasionally for worship. They rehearse before choir on Wednesday evenings.

CONGREGATIONAL SERVICE GROUPS

Each family in the congregation is a part of a service group. The groups take turns serving at funerals, anniversaries, and other special events by working, providing food, or financial support. The groups also take turns providing one of the midweek Lenten suppers each Lenten season. Karen Shea coordinates the service groups.

SERVING AND OUTREACH MINISTRY

Grace Lutheran is active in reaching out to those in need through many ways. Grace is a part of Charis Ministry Partners which is a ministry of the ELCA congregations in the Sioux Falls area. Through Charis Ministry we:

1. Serve Food to You which is a mobile food pantry that provides groceries each Thursday at an ELCA church. When we distribute groceries we also collect the food of the month which is designated by Food to You.

2. Serve at Necessities for Neighbors which is a distribution of items not covered by food stamps — laundry soap, diapers, feminine products, and toilet paper — that takes place on the first Sunday of the month at Peace Lutheran. Once a year we collect to supply several months worth of toilet paper for Necessities and we serve at the distribution.

PRAYER MINISTRY

Prayer provides the foundation for the life and ministry of Grace Lutheran. We have several ways in which people in the congregation bring joys and sorrows before God in prayer.

Prayer Chains

Grace has an email prayer chain. Specific prayer requests are forwarded to the prayer chains by the coordinator.

Chapel Prayers

Each Sunday someone is in the prayer chapel to pray for the events and activities of the week, for those on the prayer list, and for special prayer requests. If you are interested in being a chapel Prayer talk to Pastor Siri.

Weekly Prayer List

Grace maintains a weekly prayer list which includes those who are shut in or live in care facilities and those who have been hospitalized or who are recovering from surgery. It also includes those who are celebrating special events or mourning the loss of loved ones. The prayer list is placed on the information table each week so those who feel called to pray for people at home may pick one up. To place a request on the “yellow” prayer list, call the office.

Prayer Shawls

are available in wooden cabinet in the narthex. If you know someone you would like to “wrap” in prayer, please take one to give to that person. If you would like to make prayer shawls, knitting or crocheting patterns are available from Rita Blake.

Pastoral Prayer

Each week Pastor Siri prays for one of the shepherd groups as well lifting up each person and family to ask God to bless them. The list is published in the monthly newsletter so that others, too, may pray for these families.

Prayer Garden

The Prayer Garden surrounds the front of the church and provides a quiet place for people to enjoy God’s creation and meditate. If you are interested in helping to tend the garden, talk to Pastor Siri or Joyce Cunningham.

Shepherding Ministry

Each person in the congregation is part of a Shepherding Group which are generally formed geographically. Each group has a shepherd who commits to praying for his/her “flock” regularly and who makes a caring contact when a person or family experiences a joy or a sorrow in their lives. In this way each member of the congregation is prayed for regularly.
